Dorothy R. Kirk

Ms. Kirk is the Principal of Kirk Enterprises. She is responsible for all courseware and software development, training, consulting, and mentoring. Ms. Kirk additionally provides personalized curriculum planning and corporate reskilling program development for selected clients. She has been in business since 1994, and has programmed and taught C++ and Java Programming from their inception.

Technical Summary

Ms. Kirk has over twenty-five years practical experience in object-oriented analysis, design and implementation. She has been programming in C++ since 1990, and Java since 1997. She has programming experience in C (ANSI and K&R), Python programming, as well as many other assorted programming languages (Lisp, Pascal, Modula-2, Prolog, PL/1, 8088 and 6809 assembly languages). She has experience as both a Unix and Windows programmer. In addition to object-oriented programming. Ms. Kirk has an interest in Unix internals, inter-process communication and distributed processing.

Ms. Kirk is experienced in developing course materials and successfully teaching business professionals as well as undergraduate college students in Object-Oriented technologies and methodologies, Java, C++, C programming languages, the UNIX operating system and distributed processing. Her passion is teaching Object-Oriented Programming and sharing her knowledge with others.

Experience

Prior to founding Kirk Enterprises, Ms. Kirk was a Consultant at the Advanced Concepts Center of Martin Marietta (formerly of General Electric), a commercial training facility featuring object-oriented training and consulting. She was one of the ten charter members of the Advanced Concepts Center, a group now numbering several hundred. She was the Leader of the Language Course Development Group. Ms. Kirk was responsible for consulting, mentoring, course development and presentation in C, C++, Object-Oriented technologies, and distributed applications. She is the co-author of the Advanced Concepts Center's C++, C++ for non-C programmers, Advanced C, Advanced C++, and Distributed Processing Using C++ courses. Ms. Kirk was a speaker at Distributed Computing World 1994 in Washington, .D.C.; her lecture detailed distributed objects.

Prior to joining the Advanced Concepts Center, Ms. Kirk was employed as Systems Engineer at the General Electric Company where she implemented Object-Oriented, C++, C, and distributed applications in a UNIX environment. Prior to joining General Electric, Ms. Kirk was employed as a programmer by Morgan Christiana Center (a subsidiary of J.P. Morgan) and by Micro Assistance Corporation.

Ms. Kirk additionally has been a part-time professor at the Pennsylvania State University where she taught C++ programming and Object-Oriented Analysis and Design.
